In December 2019, Gani was interviewed as a witness by prosecutors from The Hague. Gani is not his real name; BIRN is using a pseudonym to protect his identity. Many witnesses are fearful of potential retribution in Kosovo; this is one of the reasons that the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, which will try former KLA guerrillas for wartime crimes, was set up outside the country.

Former Kosovo police officer Fadil Syleviqi, 55, was found dead on Friday afternoon on a forest road leading from Pristina to Badovci Lake, police said.

Police said they were informed shortly after 2pm local time that a person with no signs of life was lying on the ground by the road.

"I have to purchase most of the drugs myself, apart for some antibiotics, and then cover my own travel expenses and everything else," he notes, adding that the expenses have topped 500 euros so far, over eight days.

Shala told Pristina-based Klan Kosova TV that he has been invited as a witness and will travel to The Hague on April 17.

Asked why the prosecutors want to interview him, he responded: "I have no idea."

According to Shala, this would be "a government decision."

He claims that the increased taxes will not be abolished "until the reasons for their introduction have been eliminated."

The first deputy PM and foreign minister stressed that this would run contrary to all agreements reached in Brussels (during EU-mediated Belgrade-Pristina negotiations).
