The Sofia District Prosecutor's Office is initiating pre-trial proceedings on a received signal for systematic monitoring and threatening to kill a magistrate from the Specialized Prosecutor's Office, the prosecution said.

The prosecutor's office has taken the case of police violence under the columns of the Council of Ministers under special supervision, Nova TV reports.

The pre-trial proceedings were initiated last year, but there is no evidence that any of the police officers identified as participants have been prosecuted.

Acting on its own initiative, Bulgaria's prosecution service has instituted six case files after the US Treasury Department and State Department announced on Wednesday that they are sanctioning a total of six Bulgarians over their involvement in significant corruption. 

The prosecutor's office compared four cases of blasts in ammunition depots in Bulgaria where similarity in incidents was noted. They've happened in the last 10 years, spokesperson of the Prosecutor General, Siyka Mileva, told a briefing on Wednesday.

A criminal group involved in vote buying has been uncovered, prosecutors said. Among the participants was a candidate for MP and municipal councilor.

The crime ring was funded by a person living in a country outside the European Union.

"It's the first time that an espionage ring has been busted in Bulgaria. We have evidence gathered through special intelligence tools.

Their criminal activity endangers our national security," stated spokesperson for the Prosecutor General Siyka Mileva in connection with the detained servicemen who participated in an espionage ring as quoted by BGNES

Bulgarian authorities have broken up a major organised crime ring thought to have smuggled thousands of migrants from Afghanistan en route to western Europe, prosecutors said Tuesday, as cited by Reuters.

Bulgarian crime group for trafficking in cultural property in Spain has been dismantled, Prosecutor Siyka Mileva said at a press briefing of the Special Prosecutor's Office and the General Directorate for Combating Organised Crime regarding the special operation, Focus News Agency reports.
