Patients' organisations and Bulgarian Ombudswoman Maya Manolova have pledged to challenge in court a controversial moratorium on public funding for innovative drugs, which was backed by the majority of MPs in parliament on Thursday.

Five MPs are leaving the Executive Bureau of the Bulgarian Socialist Party by a decision by the BSP National Council, taken at the party's plenary session today, reported BNR.

The proposal to exclude from the Bureau most of its members who are MPs was made by the leader Kornelia Ninova.

The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) has elected Stefan Danailov, a cinema actor who rose to fame in iconic Bulgarian productions and some foreign titles, as a deputy to newly elected leader Korneliya Ninova.

By Constitution the session was opened by the oldest MP - actor Stefan Danailov from the Bulgarian Socialist Party.

Bulgaria's 43rd National Assembly is to hold its first sitting at 2 pm on Monday.

Following Constitutional provisions, the first sitting will be inaugurated by the oldest member of parliament, Stefan Danailov from the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), who will give a speech.
