The number of jobs in the new factory for optical technologies, which was unveiled in Trakia Economic Zone in Plovdiv, will triple within 1 year. So far, 50 specialists have been employed at the factory, Deputy Mayor of Plovdiv Stefan Stoyanov said at the official ceremony. 

There is no final decision of the Volkswagen Group where it will make its new plant, but we see that the construction in Turkey has not started yet, Deputy Mayor Stefan Stoyanov told his colleagues in Plovdiv in response to a question whether Bulgaria and in particular Plovdiv lost the battle for Volkswagen.

Old streets, young spirit

Plovdiv, in Bulgaria, is one of the two European Capitals of Culture for 2019. (Matera, Italy, is the second).

How did Plovdiv win this distinction? Simply put, it is because Bulgaria is one of the fastest- rising tourist destinations in Europe.

An informal meeting of the Working Party on General Affairs of the Council of the EU was held on 10 and 11 May in Sofia and Plovdiv. The Trakia Economic Zone in the Plovdiv region of south-central Bulgaria is launching a campaign to attract workers in order to fill in around 5,000 vacancies, representatives of the businesses involved and the municipal authorities announced on Tuesday.

The local administration in Plodviv has helped Bulgaria's second-largest city position itself as a key center for manufacturing, IT and outsourcing, Deputy Mayor Stefan Stoyanov has said. 

The second edition of the summer festival OPERA OPEN in Plovdiv will be taking place outside the stage of the Ancient Theater. The purpose is for the art to find new fans and the organizers will be attempting to gather close to 10,000 people at the events.

Plovdiv will be officially declared European Capital of Culture for 2019 at a Tuesday meeting of the Council of the European Union.

The issue has been included in the provisional agenda of the meeting on May 19, according to Darik radio.

Plovdiv Mayor Ivan Totev and his deputy Stefan Stoyanov left for Brussels on Monday.

This is the first time in the history of INDEX when the event will take place in Eastern Europe, and is deemed to be of strategic importance for the development of the tourist sector in Plovdiv.

Bulgaria's second largest city, Plovdiv, has attracted three large outsourcing companies, according to Mediapool.bg.

During the Bulgaria As An Outsourcing Destination conference, which took in Plovdiv in the end of this week, it transpired that within the next few monthst, the companies Scale Focus, 60К and UNIFY.
