Türkiye’s first astronaut to take Salt Lake plant to space
Türkiye's first space traveler Alper Gezeravcı will take the "Schrenkiella Parvula" plant, which grows endemically in Salt Lake in Türkiye's Central Anatolia region, to space to test its feasibility for the purpose of improving soil on the Moon and Mars.
Flash floods hit Black Sea provinces
Flash floods have struck several provinces in the Black Sea region, killing at least one person and triggering more than 1,000 landslides, with the Turkish State Meteorological Service once again issuing an "orange alert" for the region.

Yeşilçam's iconic actress Fatma Girik passes away
Fatma Girik, a veteran actress of Turkish cinema, a.k.a. Yeşilçam, passed away on Jan. 24 at the age of 79.
She died of multiple organ failure at a private hospital in Istanbul, where she was being treated for COVID-19, according to a statement released by the hospital management.

Man kills at least four, including wife, in latest case of domestic violence
A man has disappeared into thin air after killing four people, including his wife, and wounding two others in southeastern Gaziantep province, while reports indicated he might also be responsible for the death of five other relatives who were found dead later on Feb. 5.
'Arts against violence' at Pera Fest

Turkish Culture Ministry to support 49 feature films this year
During its first meeting of the year, Culture and Tourism Ministry's General Directorate of Cinema has decided to give 22.2 million Turkish Liras in financial support to 49 local feature film projects in 2015. In the category for the first feature film of a director, 14 projects will be given 4.1 million liras, with 35 other films will be given the remaining 18.1 million liras.
