The prosecutor has requested the acquittal of three police officers who have been tried without detention in the ongoing trial on the 2015 killing of Tahir Elçi, the former head of the Diyarbakır Bar Association.

Several famous personalities, including a football player and a former Miss Türkiye, will serve in the 28th term of the Turkish parliament.

Former footballer and manager Ünal Karaman, who also worked as a caretaker manager for the Türkiye's national football team in 2004, entered the new parliament from the İYİ (Good) Party list in the Central Anatolian Province of Konya.

The lawmakers should attend the funerals of the terrorists, the head of the Republican People's Party (CHP) has said, referring to some members of the parliament from the ranks of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) who in the past had attended the ceremonies held for the PKK terrorists.

Turkish prosecutors sought an aggravated life sentence on March 26 for a suspect accused in the 2015 killing of Tahir Elçi, the former head of the Diyarbakır Bar Association, and two police officers. 

Tahir Elçi, the former head of the Diyarbakır Bar Association, was commemorated on the second anniversary of his death on Nov. 28, with several events organized in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır.

Police on June 2 briefly detained Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) spokesperson Osman Baydemir in the southeastern Turkish province of Diyarbakır as part of an ongoing case in which he is accused of "insulting public servants," Doğan News Ageny has reported.

Tahir Elçi, the Diyarbakır Bar Association head who was killed in an armed clash in November 2015 in Diyarbakır, was remembered on the anniversary of his murder in Istanbul and the southeastern province of Diyarbakır.
