INTERVIEW/Jagland: I am glad Romania did not go down the route of France and other European countries

In a recent interview to Agerpres, Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE) Thorbjorn Jagland voices satisfaction over the fact that Romania has not taken the same route in the European elections as France and other countries did, setting a good example and showing that there is a culture in Romania of not going with the flow.

Romania Launches Naval Exercise in Black Sea

The military exercise, codenamed “Vector 2014”, is to end later this week and will involve some 1,600 naval personnel, the Romanian Defence Ministry confirmed on Monday.

“The exercise is organized annually and aims at training naval structures for their missions. It was planned around one year ago,” the ministry said.

Worried Romania Urges NATO to Look East

“Romania is extremely concerned over developments in neighboring Ukraine, which have a serious impact on international security. In such a context, we have concrete expectations of a redeployment and an eastward repositioning of NATO's naval, air and ground forces," Romanian Foreign Minister, Titus Corlatean, said on Thursday.

Moldova's Jitters About Russia Worry Romania

Romanian officials on Tuesday expressed support for the government of neighbouring Moldova and urged Russia not to encourage separatists in Moldova's Transdniester region in their quest to join Russia.

“Romania together with its EU and NATO partners should show their commitment to supporting Moldova’s independence and territorial integrity,” Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta said.
