The Democratic Liberal Party's (PDL) National Steering College is convening today at Parliament Palace to prepare an Extraordinary National Convention for July 26, preceding the joint PDL-National Liberal Party (PNL) Congress aimed at merging through amalgamation and at discussing up-to-date political topics, including a merger through absorption with the Civic Force Party (FC).

The Prime Minister and national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Victor Ponta on Wednesday evening stated that the new political entity to result form a merger of the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) will have Traian Basescu as its new leader, after this autumn's presidential election.

Social Democratic Party (PSD) Executive Chairman Liviu Dragnea in Alexandria, on Saturday, said that, in his opinion, Crin Antonescu would be "a mere passer-by" after the National Liberal Party (PNL) Congress.

National Liberal Party (PNL) and Liberal Democratic Party (PDL) leaders met at the Parliament Palace on Wednesday to discuss a collaboration, including the support for a single candidate in the presidential elections.
