The president of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vassilis Korkidis, and the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Genoa, Luigi Attanasio, signed a memorandum of cooperation, aiming to create favorable conditions for the development of economic relations between businesses in Genoa and Piraeus.

"It appears that the forecast for the turnover of the retail market in December - that it will exceed last year's 3.83 billion euros and peak at above €4 billion - is going to prove accurate, while the consumers' preferences regarding gifts remained the same, with clothing and footwear in first place, followed by gift items, toys and cosmetics," the president of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce

Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Vassilis Korkidis warned on Thursday that with 90% of world trade carried by sea, the effect on transit prices from the attacks on commercial ships passing through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, not only on trade but also on fuel costs, is inevitable.

Of the approximately 800,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) operating in Greece, more than nine out of ten are very small enterprises and employ up to 10 employees, while only 672 large enterprises have more than 250 employees!

Creating a favorable financial climate to support the approximately 820,000 SMEs in Greece should be a key goal of government, banks and entrepreneurship.

The "click-and-collect" system, involving customers picking up e-orders from outside retail stores rather than having them delivered, helped certain sectors recover some of their losses incurred due to the coronavirus restrictions, leading trade chamber representative Vassilis Korkidis said on Friday.

Retail commerce in Greece has been suffering a decline this year, according to official statistics and market experts, largely due to overtaxation, shrinking disposable incomes and political uncertainty.

Spring sales start on Thursday in Attica and across most of the country amid low expectations of a recovery in the shrinking retail market.
