With tickets having sold out on the nights announced to date, composer and conductor Stavros Xarchakos has added more to his run of shows focused on laiko composers at Gazarte in downtown Athens. Xarchakos will conduct a seven-member orchestra of top soloists who will also accompany him on vocals.

After spending half a century delighting entechno music lovers across the country, Manolis Mitsias is set to perform alongside vocalist Christina Galiatsou at Nafplio's Fougaro Theater. Mitsias is one of the foremost traditional Greek musicians today, and his discography boasts collaborations with musical greats like Mikis Theodorakis, Yannis Markopoulos and Vassilis Tsitsanis.

Charity Concert | Athens | July 4

Skai TV's charity campaign Oloi Mazi Boroume ("Together We Can") will be presenting the benefit concert "Play Ttsitanis" at the Panathenaic Stadium on Tuesday, July 4, with all proceeds going toward vulnerable social groups. The concert is dedicated to Greek musician Vassilis Tsitsanis, one of the founders of the laiko and rebetiko genres.

The Aussie woman who fell in love with Tsitsanis, Theodorakis and spread rembetika to the world

Gail Holst-Warhaft, director of the Mediterranean Studies initiative (2004 onwards) and Faculty Associate of the Cornell Center for a Sustainable Future at Cornell University, was born in Australia, lives in the United States but has a heart that beats to the tune of rembetika – a Greek music genre that was once considered the music of tekes and hashish.
