Russia's Zvonareva denied entry to Poland for WTA

Russian former world number two Vera Zvonareva has been denied entry to Poland where she was to participate in next week's Polish Open WTA tournament, the interior ministry said on July 22.

"Vera Zvonareva was trying to enter our country with a visa granted by France, via a flight from Belgrade," according to a statement issued by the Polish ministry.

Not less than four Romanian tennis players are among the seeded players at the BRD Bucharest Open (WTA) tournament, equipped with total prizes worth 226,750 US dollars, to start on Monday on the BNR Arenas in the Capital City: Mihaela Buzarnescu is 2nd seeded, Irina Begu, last edition's winner, is 3rd seeded, Sorana Cirstea is seed no. 5 and Ana Bogdan is seed no. 6.

Ivanovic through to Monterrey quarterfinals

MONTERREY - Serbia's top female tennis player Ana Ivanovic advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2015 WTA tournament in Monterrey, Mexico, after beating France's Pauline Parmentier 6-3, 6-2 Thursday morning CET.

Defending champion Ivanovic will next face another Frenchwoman, Kristina Mladenovic, who beat Russia's Vera Zvonareva 6-4, 6-2.

Djokovic, Wawrinka join Williams in 3rd round in Australia

Top-ranked Serena Williams fended off three set points before going on a 10-game roll to beat Vera Zvonareva 7-5, 6-0 and move into the third round of the Australian Open.
     
Men's No. 1 Novak Djokovic had an easier run, spending a minute less than Williams on Rod Laver Arena in his 84-minute, 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 win over No. 88-ranked Andrey Kuznetsov on Thursday.
