Russia on Oct. 8 vetoed a United Nations draft resolution demanding an end to the bombing of Syria's war-battered city of Aleppo, despite an appeal from France to save the city from destruction.

Ambassadors on the 15-member UN Security Council will hold their sixth and last informal straw poll on Wednesday, with the five permanent members using coloured ballots to mark candidates they would like to block.

As of October 1, Russia will take over the UN Security Council Presidency.

This is the month when the process of selection of a new Secretary General of the UN may end.

Moscow on Monday slammed the United States and Britain for accusing Russia of "barbarism" and war crimes in Syria as Russian and Syrian warplanes continued to bomb rebel-held areas of Aleppo.

U.S.-led coalition air strikes reportedly killed dozens of Syrian soldiers on Sept. 17, endangering a U.S.-Russian brokered ceasefire and prompting an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting as tensions between Moscow and Washington escalated. 

BELGRADE - Russia on Friday has accused the United States of refusing to share documents with the UN Security Council outlining a joint agreement aimed at halting the fighting in Syria.

An urgent council meeting called to discuss the agreement was abruptly cancelled on Friday amid disagreements between Russia and the United States over the joint deal.

Turkey is investigating Russian claims that Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants in Syria and Iraq have profited from smuggling stolen antiquities through its territory, despite its belief the charges were politically motivated, a Turkish official said on April 7. 

Russia has submitted data on Turkey’s illegal arms and military hardware supply to Islamic State in Syria to the UN Security Council.

According to RT citing Russian media, Russian UN envoy Vitaly Churkin said supplies are supervised by the Turkish intelligence service.

Tehran's recent ballistic missile tests did not violate a U.N. resolution and were not illegal, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said March 15 after being questioned on the issue by Australia.

The United Nations Security Council met on March 14 at the request of the United States to discuss the missile tests that have raised the prospect of new sanctions.

Russia's envoy to the U.N. Vitaly Churkin warned long-term ally President Bashar al-Assad over his vow to retake all of Syria, saying he faced dire consequences if he did not comply with Moscow over the peace process.
