Protesters Halt John Malkovich's Play Premiere in Bulgaria, Attacking Spectators

The premiere of a John Malkovich-directed play in Sofia, Bulgaria, was marred by protests from nationalists, who surrounded the National Theater and prevented ticketed spectators from entering. Several hundred protesters gathered outside, claiming the play "Arms and the Man," based on Bernard Shaw's work, was offensive to Bulgarians.

Today THE FATHER Comes To National Theatre in Sofia

The Father by French playwright Florian Zeller comes to Bulgaria's National Theatre beginning October 31, 2018 on select dates through December 31, 2018."Father" is an absolute hit on the theater stages of New York, Paris, Berlin and London, reports TransmediumNews. 

The virtuous storyline follows the character of André / Vladimir Penev / into a world of multiple identities. 

The Fifth Edition of Night of the Theater is 'Double'

On the occasion of its fifth anniversary in Bulgaria, the European night theater initiative will have a double edition on 4 and 5 November. Two more events, as well as over 1200 artists from different theatrical styles, are expected to become part of the 'Night' and present their productions in more than 60 locations (theaters, galleries, cinemas, clubs) in 15 cities.

Violinist Vesko Eschkenazy Receives His Personality in the News Award

Veselin Pantaleev-Eschkenazy returned to Bulgaria to receive his award for "Personality in the News 2013" in the category Culture.

The world-renowned violinist earned 1,759 votes in the prestigious online vote. Far behind him with 852 votes remained actor Vladimir Penev and writer Georgi Gospodinov, with 731.
