Meral Akşener, an expelled dissident member of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) accelerated her efforts to form a new party as MHP lawmaker Koray Aydın is set to announce that he will join the new party.

"We are working on announcing the new party by late October," Akşener said, responding to reporters' questions on Aug. 20 at a ceremony she attended.

Two expelled dissident members of the Nationalist Movement Party's (MHP), Ümit Özdağ and Yusuf Halaçoğlu, have said they have launched efforts for the formation of a new political party.

"There will be some surprise names in the party," they said on July 4.

Turkey's opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) expelled four of its lawmakers on March 10, amid deepening rift within the party.   

The MHP's central disciplinary board ruled for the expulsions of Balıkesir lawmaker İsmail Ok, Kayseri lawmaker Yusuf Halaçoğlu, Isparta lawmaker Nuri Okutan and party member Sinan Oğan. 

A split within the opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) regarding the April 16 referendum that will decide whether the current parliamentary system should be replaced with an executive presidency has deepened with attacks against party dissidents.
