Serbian Economy Minister Zeljko Sertic met in Minsk on Monday with representatives of the Belarus Trade and Industry Ministries.

They discussed opportunities to improve economic cooperation between the two countries and expanding business activities of companies, Tanjug said.

The government "deeply believes entrepreneurs must be at the heart of economic development, so it earmarked RSD 16.06 billion in support."

Economy Minister Zeljko Sertic made this remark on Tuesday, during.the official presentation of "The Year of Entrepreneurship" at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.

Around 400 shareholders of the recently bankrupted Belgrade Beer Industry, BIP, protested on Thursday in front of the government, demanding the dismissal of Economy Minister Zeljko Sertic.

They accused Sertic for being responsible for the bankruptcy of the long established firm founded in 1963, as there were investors interested in buying it.

Serbian Economy Minister Zeljko Sertic on Tuesday said the government would amend the draft law on investment, which initially foresaw that the government could deny access to information of public interest to journalists and others. 

By the end of the year the Ministry of Economy will prepare seven more draft laws aimed to improve the business environment, Zeljko Sertic said.

Economy Minister Zeljko Sertic conferred on Tuesday with IMF mission representatives concerning the course of privatization so far.

Other topics of the meeting included operation of public enterprises and the laws which are being prepared.

Milan Knezevic from the Serbian Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises told BIRN that the conditions for doing business in Serbia are "terrible" and that despite economy minister Zeljko Sertic's promises to improve the situation, "no progress has been made whatsoever".

Economy Minister Zeljko Sertic said on Tuesday there was interest in the privatization of Serbia's state-owned telecommunications company Telekom Srbija.

The list of bidders includes both companies and investment funds, he told B92.
