Bulgarian MPs Revive Belene Nuclear Plant Project

The Bulgarian parliament on Thursday voted overwhelmingly in favour of dropping the moratorium on the construction of the Belene Nuclear Power Plant, NPP.

A total of 172 out of 240 MPs supported the proposal by the ruling GERB party of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov which gives Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova the mandate to restart the process of seeking potential investors.

The Deal for the Sale of CEZ Goes for Discussion into Parliament

The Temporary Committee for establishing all the facts and circumstances related to the privatization and planned sale of CEZ Group companies in Bulgaria will hold its first meeting today.

The Interim Parliamentary Committee was formed after the scandal surrounding the energy deal. The head of the commission is BSP MP Zhelyo Boychev.

Bulgaria's Socialists Return Govt Mandate to President

The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) has handed back the mandate to form a new government and lead the country out of the current Parliamentary crisis.

"I will not use the opportunity [to form a cabinet," Ninova has said before handing out a statement to Plevneliev to confirm the decision.

Ninova is accompanied by two core BSP members, Angel Naydenov and Zhelyo Boychev.

Sofia Airport Concession Deadline Extended Until January 31

"We will extend the deadline for applications for the concession of Sofia Airport until January 31. We are leaving Mr Radev and the caretaker government to decide what to do with the airport," stated Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski at an extraordinary briefing called after the statement of BSP deputy Zhelyo Boychev.
