Brigadier general arrested amid human trafficking claims

A brigadier general who served in Syria has been arrested after allegations surfaced that he was involved in smuggling people across the border, reports said on June 27.

Bilal Çokay was detained in Ankara following an order from the chief public prosecutor's office in Şanlıurfa's Akçakale district earlier this week.

PYD lowers 3 American flags at base in northern Syria

Three American flags were lowered on top of buildings under the control of the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Tal Abyad town in northern Syria on Sept. 17, a local source in the region told Anadolu Agency.

The U.S. flags had emerged at the group's base in the area on Sept. 16, according to the source.

50 kilos of explosives found in Turkish border town

The Turkish gendarmerie has found four abandoned bags stuffed with 50 kilograms of plastic explosives in the southeastern district of Akçakale, which is across the border from Syria's Tal Abyad, which is under Democratic Union Party (PYD) rule.
