Man detained in western Turkey years after refusing military service
LGBTI activist Mehmet Tarhan, who refused to serve in the Turkish military in 2001 but was forcibly drafted in 2005, has been detained on a charge of "defying military law" in the western province of Ayd?n, according to a message posted on his Twitter account.
Provincial assembly meeting held in ancient site
The first provincial assembly September meeting in the western province of Ayd?n was held in the ancient site of Nysa in the historical Caria region, where assemblies of elders gathered 1,800 years ago.
The meeting marked a historical moment at the ancient Bouletion Assembly Hall where the Metropolitan Municipality Assembly members gathered, along with locals.

Ancient bridge in Turkey's west collapses during restoration
An almost 600-year-old historic bridge in the Aegean province of Ayd?n will be rebuilt after it collapsed this past January during restoration works.
The bridge over the Dandalaz creek in the Karacasu district of Ayd?n, which also boasts the ancient city of Aphrodisias nearby, collapsed on Jan. 30 during renovations.
Pieces of huge structure found in Didim
Excavation works in the Temple of Apollo in the western province of Ayd?n's Didim district have unearthed the foundations of a giant structure, thought to have connections with the temple.
The works have been carried out by the German Halle Martin Luther University, the German Archaeology Institute and the Milet Museum Directorate.

22 workers poisoned of gas leakage in western Turkey
As many as 22 workers in a textile factory in the western province of Ayd?n have been poisoned out of a gas leakage in the factory's ventilation system, with all the poisoned reported to be in good condition.
Turkish house sales rise by 19.1 percent in June
The house sales in Turkey have increased by 19.1 percent to 110,657 units in June 2015, in comparison with last year's rates, according to data released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜ?K) on July 24.
TÜ?K reports showed that the mortgaged house sales have also increased to a volume of 40,503, with a rise of 26.5 percent over the same period.
