Former head of AKP youth branch killed in gun attack in Diyarbak?r

A former head of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) youth branch was killed on Aug. 31 in a gun attack in the southeastern province of Diyarbak?r.

Unknown assailants attacked Yunus Koca, who was a pharmacist, in front of his drugstore in Diyarbak?r?s central Yeni?ehir district. Koca was badly wounded and rushed to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Three police officers, one civilian dead in attacks in Turkey's southeast

Three police officers and a civilian have been killed and five policemen and one civilian wounded in attacks staged by suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers? Party (PKK), while funerals for the killed police officers took place in their hometowns. 

Rights groups call on Turkey to release VICE journalists

International rights organizations have called on Turkish authorities to release three people working for VICE News, including two British journalists, who have been detained in Turkey's southeastern province of Diyarbak?r.

The journalists will appear in a Turkish court on Aug. 31, facing "unsubstantiated charges of terrorism," said a VICE News spokesperson.
