The explosives used in the deadly Dec. 10 Beşiktaş terror attack "are not ordinary ammunition," Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmuş said after a cabinet meeting on Dec. 12.

A thorough investigation to identify the source of the explosives is still being conducted, he added.    

Police in Istanbul detained roughly 30 foreigners late on Nov. 20 as part of ongoing efforts to apprehend illegal migrants who escaped a deportation center, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Suspects in the case into the beating of Hürriyet columnist Ahmet Hakan have confessed that former police officers offered them 100,000 Turkish Liras to attack the journalist after an Istanbul court ordered the arrest of just one suspect and the release of six others.

At least 44 suspects, including local heads of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), were detained in a pre-dawn "anti-terror" police operation in Istanbul on Oct. 2.
