India’s “guru of bling” jailed for 10 years on rape charges
An Indian judge on Monday handed a 10-year jail sentence to self-styled ‘godman’ Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, whose followers went on a deadly rampage after he was convicted of rape on Friday.
Prior to the verdict, tens of thousands of police had enforced a lockdown in large parts of the northern states of Haryana and Punjab where Singh, 50, has a mass following.

Muslim women in India gang-raped over beef
An Indian woman has said that she and her 14-year-old cousin were gang raped and two relatives murdered, after being accused of being Muslims who ate beef.
The woman, 20, told the BBC that four men carried out the attack in northern Haryana state two weeks ago. She denied consuming beef.
She said the men beat her uncle and aunt to death in their home in Mewat.
