With several fires still burning on the Greek-flagged Sounion oil tanker since the attack by Iranian pro-Iranian Houthi rebels in the Red Sea on August 21, Greece is taking a leading role in the effort to tow it to prevent an environmental disaster.

Greece has formally agreed to participate in and lead a European Union maritime security operation in the Red Sea to protect commercial shipping from attacks by Houthi militants in Yemen.

Germany is set to create its first federal migrant repatriation centre over the summer, reports EUobserver. 

State secretary Stephan Mayer told the newspaper that the centre was a top priority for the new government. The centre is likely to be built in Bavaria or in Hessen. The aim is to speed up returns of people whose asylum requests have been rejected.

German police reckon that the arrested Pakistani, suspected of the truck attack on Monday which killed 12 people, is not the real perpetrator, stated the chief of police in the capital Klaus Kandt, reported BNR.
