Turkish security forces catch 47 refugees attempting to cross into Europe

Turkish security forces caught 47 refugees who were trying to illegally cross into Europe on July 26.       

Gendarmerie officers in the northwestern province of Kırklareli, bordering Bulgaria, detained 24 Afghan and Syrian refugees preparing to flee the country illegally, a security source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.      

40 pct of deaths caused by diseases of circulatory system in 2016: Turkish Statistics Institute

Almost two-fifths of Turks who died in 2016 perished due to diseases of the circulatory system, according to a study by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK).

Some 39.8 percent of the 408,782 deaths in 2016 occurred due to circulatory diseases, followed by cancer at 19.7 percent and respiratory diseases at 11.9 percent.

Turkey puts 28 new power plants into operation in February: Ministry

Turkey put 28 new power plants into operation in February with 316.7 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity, of which 94 percent came from local resources, data from the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry showed on March 6.        

Turkey's current installed electricity capacity reached 78,915 MW with the newly added capacity by the end of February.
