Mural Istanbul Festival opens
Organized by the Kadıköy Municipality, the Seventh Mural Istanbul Festival opens June 20. During the event until June 28, artists from the world will turn the walls of the buildings in Kadıköy into artwork. The second leg of the festival will be organized between July 2 and July 9.

Sculpture of iconic Istanbul cat 'Tombili' stolen
A sculpture created in memory of "Tombili," a portly cat who became a social media phenomenon after being photographed posing on a sidewalk in Istanbul's Ziverbey neighborhood, has been stolen from the sidewalk, Kadıköy Municipality announced on Nov. 8.

Sculpture of cat phenomenon 'Tombili' inaugurated in Istanbul
A sculpture created in memory of "Tombili," a portly cat who became a social media phenomenon after being photographed posing on a sidewalk in Istanbul's Ziverbey neighborhood, was inaugurated on Oct. 4, World Animal Day.
Istanbul State Opera Ballet opens new season
The Istanbul State Opera and Ballet (IDOB) has opened the 2016-2017 season with a concert that drew a large number of artists at the Süreyya Opera.
Speaking about the new season, IDOB Director and Art Director Suat Arıkan said the theme of the new season would be "Firsts," noting that he chose the masterpieces of composers whose works had never been performed in Turkey.

Artists using Istanbul's walls as their canvas
If you are living in Istanbul, or you have somehow happened to visit this beautiful historical city, you now have the chance of seeing some giant paintings made by mural artists from across the world.
The aim is to enliven some of the more subdued areas of Istanbul, replacing grey walls with enormous pictures, each telling a different story.
