Powerful storm paralyzes daily life in Marmara region
Fierce storms and torrential rain, which have battered the Black Sea over the past weeks, have now wreaked havoc in the Marmara region, bringing daily life to a standstill.
The storm that hit the Marmara Sea starting late on Nov. 28, caused severe damage in coastal provinces, with teams rescuing 11 crew members of a ship that ran aground in Istanbul.
Old quarry to become ‘National Park’: Kurum

Parents protest against quake risk in front of risky school building
Parents of students at an elementary school in the Kartal district in Istanbul protested against the earthquake retrofitting of their school, claiming that the building is still not strong enough to withstand a possible earthquake.
Special team assigned over cemevi head attack
Istanbul Police Department has assigned a special team to inspect the attack carried out by two assailants on Selami Sarıtaş, the head of a cemevi in Istanbul's Kartal district, on Aug. 5.
One of the two motorcyclists, who allegedly made a scouting trip on the street before, approached Sarıtaş, who was returning home in his car, under the pretext of asking for an address.

More and more buildings in Turkey are being integrated into a system that will help authorities get information immediately about these structures and residences in case of an earthquake.
Under the Building Identification System, each building is assigned a unique QR code, with chips installed that store information such as who lives in the building and floor plans.

Magnitude 3.9 earthquake strikes Istanbul
A magnitude 3.9 earthquake struck Istanbul's Kartal district on June 19, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
AFAD said on its website that the quake occurred at 15.07 local time, at a depth of around seven kilometers (4.34 miles).
No casualties have been reported.

Girl rescued from debris starts walking after two years
A 9-year-old girl, who was rescued from the rubble of an eight-story building that collapsed in Istanbul in 2019, has finally started walking again after two years and 55 surgeries.
Some 21 people were killed, and 14 others were injured when a residential block collapsed in the city's Kartal district on Feb. 4, 2019.
3-story building collapses in Istanbul's Balat neighborhood
A three-story derelict building in Istanbul's Balat neighborhood collapsed on Feb. 16. No injuries have been reported yet.
Istanbul's Governor's Office has released a statement regarding the incident, saying that the building had been cordoned off previously as a "precautionary measure."
