Turkey's ski resort listed as top European destination
The Erciyes Ski Resort in central Turkey will be included in the prestigious European Destinations of Excellence Network (EDEN) for sustainable tourism.
The resort in Kayseri province was among the top five destinations from the 30 entries from Turkey, according to a statement from the local municipality on Jan. 13.
Turkish professor finds 5 types of bacteria in eyes of gentoo penguins
A Turkish professor who participated in the 3rd National Antarctic Scientific Expedition between Jan. 4 and Feb. 14, 2019, found five different bacteria in the eyes of a penguin species called "gentoo penguin."
"These bacteria are not yet identified or categorized across the world," said Latife Çakır Bayram from the Erciyes University in Turkey's central province of Kayseri.

The Erciyes Ski Resort in central Turkey was certified by Bureau Veritas, a company specialized in testing, inspection and certification, for having taken all precautionary measures against the spread of coronavirus.

Infections rise as Turkey resumes publishing all positive virus cases
The number of daily reported COVID-19 infections in Turkey jumped to above 28,000 on Nov. 25 after, in a surprise development, the government resumed publishing all positive cases and not just the number of patients being treated for symptoms of the coronavirus.
No side effects from local COVID-19 vaccine
Tests on a Turkish-made coronavirus vaccine are going smoothly, with none of the volunteers testing the vaccine showing any side effects, said the rector of a university in central Turkey on Nov. 23.
Mustafa Çalış, the rector of Erciyes University in the Kayseri province, said 44 volunteers have been testing the ERUCOV-VAC vaccine.

Goddess statue unearthed in central Turkey
Turkish archeologists in Kültepe have unearthed a goddess statue, claiming it to be "the biggest" so far from the Early Bronze Age in Anatolia.
"We are happy to have found a 45-centimeter-high [17 inches] artifact, a statue. This is a very special piece," Fikri Kulakoğlu, a professor from the Ankara University and head of the excavation team, told Anadolu Agency on Sunday.

Masks mandatory in five more provinces
Turkey has made it mandatory for people to wear face masks in public in five more provinces as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19, the country's health minister said early on June 16.
Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter that wearing masks is mandatory in Diyarbakır, Erzurum, Kayseri, Rize and Şanlıurfa provinces. The mask rule is applied in 42 provinces.

Historic Beypazarı district enters UNESCO list
Ankara's historic Beypazarı district on April 18 entered the tentative list of UNESCO with its thousands of years old history.
Beypazarı has been a settlement since ancient times and holds symbols of ancient traditions with rich historical and natural resources, according to UNESCO.
