Rome – A court in the French town of Aix-en-Provence has sentenced a Slovenian citizen to three years and six months in prison for stealing a Cessna aircraft from an airfield in the Italian resort of Novi Ligure in March and flying it to France, the Italian media have reported.

 Bulgaria is among the countries with the oldest population in the European Union in 2019, according to data from the European statistical office Eurostat.

21.3% of Bulgarians last year were aged 65 and over. Among the elderly in our country the largest is the share of those aged 75 and over - 618,008 people, according to Eurostat.

In 2019, 20.3% of the EU population was aged 65 years or over; this was 0.3 percentage points higher than a year before and 2.9 percentage points higher than the corresponding share from a decade earlier. Albanian police on Wednesday arrested Baki Coku, saying he was the subject of an international warrant issued by Interpol Roma and was suspected of belonging to an organization "whose goal was to carry terrorist acts.

"His arrest was carried out with the aim of extradition [to Italy] and was part of an international anti-terror operation," the Albanian police added.  

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi suffered a setback in local elections on May 31, with a weaker-than-expected showing by his centre-left bloc and a marked rise in support for the right-wing Northern League and the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement. 

Italians voted May 31 in regional elections seen as a key measure of the fading fortunes of ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi and an important test for centre-left Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.  

Albanian police on Wednesday said they had arrested 38-year-old Alban Haki Elezi, from the village of Frakull, near the town of Kavaja in central Albania, acting on an Interpol warrant issued by the Italian authorities.

"His arrest was carried out based on a warrant issued by Interpol Rome and a ruling issued by a court in Brescia, on suspicion of terrorist acts," the statement said.
