British photo journalist fatally stabbed while hiking in California – Son arrested for murder

Authorities in California have arrested the 19-year-old son of renowned British photojournalist Paul Lowe, accusing him of murdering his father on October 12 in the San Gabriel Mountains. Lowe, who covered numerous war zones, including the Siege of Sarajevo, was found on a hiking trail with fatal stab wounds to his neck, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s report.

Fossils dating back about six million years found in southwest China's Yunnan province included a greatly enlarged wrist bone called a radial sesamoid.

US police say they have prevented a mass murder plot in the city of Withers in California, the Associated Press reported, citing the Los Angeles County favors.
 
The gunman is a suspect at the El Camino High School in Witter. A security guard at the school listened to a conversation in which the boy threatened to open fire in the building on Friday and reported to the police.

Los Angeles 'turns corner' on largest wildfire in city history

A smattering of rain and easing temperatures helped more than 1,000 firefighters battling the largest wildfire in Los Angeles history gain the upper hand on the blaze on Sept. 3, but officials warned that danger remains.

"We've turned the corner, but this is not over," Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti told reporters. "With winds this strong, anything can happen."
