A winter chill is expected to sweep across Türkiye this weekend, with temperatures likely to drop and sleet and snow possibly blanketing Istanbul on Nov. 23, giving children the long-awaited chance to engage in snowball fights, sledding and building snowmen in their gardens.

Two seismic tremors struck Sivas in central-eastern Turkey within ten minutes of each other, causing concern, just one day after a strong earthquake hit the neighboring province of Malatya.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 struck eastern Turkey's Malatya province on Wednesday, the country's disaster and emergency management authority (AFAD) said, adding that there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

AFAD said the quake occurred at 10.46 a.m.(0746 GMT) with its epicentre in the district of Kale, some 40 km (25 miles) east of the city of Malatya.

The earthquake occurred at 12:34 p.m. on Dec. 28, with its epicenter situated in the Yeşilyurt district, reaching a depth of 17 kilometers, AFAD said in a written statement.
