Turkey brings 98 massive forest fires under control

Ninety-eight of 107 forest fires in Turkey are under control, the nation's Agriculture and Forestry Minister said late on July 31.

Efforts to contain nine blazes are still ongoing, Bekir Pakdemirli said during a news conference at a fire management center in the Depirmenyanı district of southwestern Muğla province.

Man who died fighting forest fire to be honored

Turkey pays tribute to a firefighter who died while fighting against a forest fire that broke out in the İçmeler neighborhood in the southwestern province of Muğla's Marmaris district, as officials offer to plant a memorial forest in his name.

For reasons unknown, fires broke out in forestland close to hotels and settlements in İçmeler during the early hours of June 27.

Magnitude 4.1 earthquake strikes in Aegean Sea

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck in the Aegean Sea in the early hours of March 29, according to Turkey's disaster agency.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said the earthquake occurred off the southwestern part of Crete Island at 02.26 a.m. local time (GMT 00.26) at a depth of 4.95 kilometers (around 3.07 miles).

Wild boars raid streets in Tukey’s Marmaris district

Wild boars have been spotted wandering in the streets of the southwestern province of Muğla's Marmaris district, which is one of the tourism hotspots of Turkey, and has become a subject of grave concern and fear among residents, the officials said on Dec. 11.

Wild boars have been hogging the district center in search of food, and residents have raised concerns over their safety.

Victims of bus accident in Turkish resort of Marmaris laid to rest on Mother's Day

Victims of a bus accident in the Turkish resort district of Marmaris in the Aegean province of Muğla were laid to rest on May 14 Mother's Day in the western province of İzmir. 

Some 24 people were killed and 11 others were injured when a tour bus carrying 34 passengers and heading to Marmaris from İzmir's Buca district for a one-day trip toppled in Sakar Geçidi on May 13.
