This morning two "Patriot" air defense squadrons began their transfer from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to Poland. Their mission is to protect the NATO partner's airspace in an area about 30 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Thousands of Germans staged protests in Germany against restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and against vaccination requirements, DPA reported.

At least eight people have died in cold weather over the weekend in Poland, officials say.

The deaths bring the total number who have died due to the cold since November to 48.

Seven people died on Thursday in a storm that had hurricane winds in northern and eastern Germany, knocked down trees and cranes, and cut off rail transport, France press and DPA reported.

In Hamburg a tree fell over a car in which there were two women. One is dead and the other is admitted to a hospital.
