Greece confirms first swine fever case in Serres
Greek health authorities were on alert on Thursday after confirming the first African swine fever (ASF) case at a small pig farm in the region of Serres, northeastern Greece.
The Ministry of Agriculture announced on Wednesday that the disease was recorded in a family business.

Fire-walkers of Northern Greece!
An ancient rite involving … fire-walking was again celebrated last week in a handful of villages οφ northern Greece.
Considered by some as a pagan custom carried into the Christian era, the fire-walking commemoration is held every May 21, which coincides with the feast day of Sts. Constantine and Helen.

Teacher detained in Serres on child abuse charges
A 47-year-old teacher was detained in Tripoli Prison on Tuesday pending trial on charges of sexually harassing seven pupils, aged between 8 and 12, at a school in a small village in the northern prefecture of Serres where he himself grew up.
The suspect, who is married but has no children of his own, is alleged to have used social media to pressure his victims into meeting with him.
