Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said his opinion that the July 15, 2016, coup attempt was a "controlled" one was strengthening and that he had a file concerning this. When reporters asked him where the file was, he answered, "I can hold a meeting later where I will reveal it." 

Constitution change will solve no problems in Turkey, Main opposition leader says

Proposed constitutional amendments will do nothing to solve Turkey's lingering problems, according to the head of the main opposition party. 

"Which problem of Turkey will be solved with this constitution change?" Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu asked during a rally held in the Black Sea province of Amasya on March 15.

More journalists in jail than in coup periods: Main opposition leader

More Turkish journalists are currently in jail than were in prison under junta rule in the 1980s, main opposition leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has said, slamming the government for staging a "civilian coup" in an attempt to stage a purge after the July 2016 coup.

"The number of jailed journalists has exceeded 150. It had never happened during the period of any coups," he said.

Presidency is not a post for one's unlimited ego: CHP head Kılıçdaroğlu

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has once again slammed government-pushed constitutional amendments for a shift to a presidential system.

"I want to once again remind you that the presidency is not a post either for tyranny over the nation or for the unlimited ego of one person," Kılıçdaroğlu wrote on his official Twitter account on Jan. 13.

Indictment seeks up to two years in jail for CHP head Kılıçdaroğlu

An indictment prepared by a local chief public prosecutor's office in Istanbul has demanded up to two years in prison for main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu on charges of "overtly insulting" President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's son in remarks made two years ago.
