Egypt summons US ambassador over Muslim Brotherhood

Egypt summoned the US ambassador in Cairo to show displeasure at Muslim Brotherhood figures coming to Washington for a private conference, sources familiar with the matter said on June 8.

One source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said US officials did not intend to meet the group although they had met some Brotherhood figures that came to Washington in January. 

Al-Jazeera journalists freed from Egypt prison: families

Two Al-Jazeera journalists were freed feb. 13 from an Egyptian prison pending retrial, their families said, after spending more than a year in jail in a case that provoked global uproar.
      
A Cairo court on Feb. 12 ordered the release of Canadian Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed, an Egyptian, who are facing retrial on charges of supporting the blacklisted Muslim Brotherhood.

Egypt frees Jazeera reporters pending retrial

An Egyptian court ordered the release of two jailed Al-Jazeera journalists Thursday pending retrial, after they spent more than 400 days in prison in a case that sparked worldwide outrage.
      
Mohamed Fahmy, who is Canadian and whose family hoped he would be deported, must pay 250,000 Egyptian pounds ($33,000) bail.
      

Al-Jazeera journalist Greste says to fly home shortly

Al-Jazeera journalist Peter Greste said Feb. 3 he was due to leave Greek Cyprus shortly and fly home to Australia following his release from an Egyptian jail.
      
In his first posts on his official Twitter account after more than 400 days in jail, Greste thanked his supporters and said he would soon be heading to see his family in his native Australia.
