One week before the scheduled match-up of Olympiakos with Panathinaikos, the Greens strolled to an easy home win over Panionios to extend their perfect domestic record further for this season. The win of the weekend belonged to Kolossos though.

Olympiakos snatched home advantage in the finals of the Basket League with an imposing performance at the Olympic Sports Hals on Sunday, beating Panathinaikos 75-65 in Game 1 of the best-of-five series.

Vassilis Spanoulis is now the top scorer of all times in the A1 division, as his contribution to Olympiakos's victory at Panionios on Friday saw him outscore Nikos Hatzis and secure another special distinction in his superb career.

Olympiakos beat AEK for the first time this year, after two losses in league and cup, but the most meaningful victory in the Basket League over the weekend was the triumph of Panionios over Lavrio that saw the Nea Smyrni club climb out of the relegation zone.

Panathinaikos narrowly escaped a huge upset at Kolossos on New Year's Eve, managing to preserve its perfect record after 10 rounds of games in the regular season of the Basket League, while Lavrio triumphed over PAOK to go alone in third.

The impressive thumping of Aris by Kymi and the first win in the season by Panionios stood out among the results of the ninth round of games of the Basket League. Yet in the most important match of the weekend PAOK thrashed AEK to confirm it is on its way up.

The triumph of Lavrio over AEK, the mauling of Aris by Promitheas and the return of Vassilis Spanoulis stood out in the weekend's action at the Basket League.

Just three teams (Panathinaikos, Kolossos and Promitheas Patras) have made it two out of two in the Basket League this weekend, but the win of this round belongs to Aris that came from behind to beat AEK by two in Thessaloniki on Saturday.

SOCCER: The Super League disciplinary committee has given PAOK all three points from the abandoned game at Panathinaikos and deduct three points from the Greens' tally in the play-off mini-league and two points from next season's league table. Panathinaikos will also play two home games behind closed doors next season and pay a 41,000-euro fine.

Olympiakos and Panathinaikos have taken their first step toward reaching the finals of the Basket League, beating Aris and AEK respectively at the start of the best-of-five semifinal series.
