The country faces a standstill due to the general strike called by GSEE (General Confederation of Greek Workers) and ADEDY (Civil Servants’ Confederation).

During the holiday period leading up to New Year and Epiphany, Athens metro and tram lines will operate on a modified timetable with reduced services. All rail services will conclude by 11 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

Actor Annie Wersching, best known for playing FBI agent Renee Walker in the series "24" and providing the voice for Tess in the video game "The Last of Us," has died. She was 45.

Wersching passed away on Jan. 29 morning in Los Angeles following a battle with cancer, her publicist told The Associated Press. The type of cancer was not specified.
