Crush on Athens metro put down to technical problems
Hundreds of commuters on the Athens metro experienced an "unprecedented" crush during rush hour on Thursday morning at downtown Syntagma station and on several trains on Line 3, with one passenger describing the situation as "asphyxiating."
May Day to affect public transport (updated)
The Athens metro will operate from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. on May Day, due to the decision of transport workers to participate in a strike, its operator STASY has said.
Buses and the tram in the capital will begin servicing routes from 9 a.m. but will return to depots by 9 p.m.

Commission approves major investment for Athens metro
The European Commission on Tuesday approved an investment of more than 10 million euros from the Cohesion Fund for the renovation of 14 trains used on Athens metro system's Line 1, which runs from Piraeus to Kifissia through several Athens neighborhoods.
First stretch of tunnel on Metro Line 4 presented
Construction company AVAX Group gave a tour to press representatives on Thursday of the Katehaki metro tunnel, where work is being carried out for Line 4 of Athens metro.
The first 700 meters of tunnel has already been opened by the first of the two tunnel boring machines deployed. The final destination is Evangelismos station, in central Athens.

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu has stated that in the last 10 years, 1 billion passengers have traveled with Marmaray, an undersea railway tunnel connecting Europe and Asia via the Bosporus Strait.
Tunnel boring machine set to start on metro extension
With the assembly of one of two massive tunnel boring machines (TBM) in its final stage, the project to extend the Athens metro is moving ahead, despite some delays on the way.
The other TBM is expected to arrive in Greece in July, aiming to start operations in October.
Athens metro stations shut down, as protest rally is held over Tempe train collision
The Athens metro stops "Syntagma" and "Panepistimio" were shut down at 10:30 on Sunday for a rally taking place at Syntagma Square over the deadly train collision accident at Tempe.
The rally is being held downtown as of 12:00 noon, and metro trains will be passing through the two stations mentioned above without stopping.
Public transport to be disrupted across capital
Public transport will be disrupted on Wednesday due to the nationwide strike called by the Greek Civil Servants' Union (ADEDY) as part of protest mobilization over last week's deadly train collision at Tempe.

Transport workers revise working hours for Wed strike
Transport workers in Athens have revised the hours they will work on Wednesday, when private-sector union ADEDY has called a 24-hour strike.
Lines 2 (Red) and 3 (Blue) of the Athens metro will operate from noon until 4 p.m., while Line 1 (Green) will run from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Buses and trolleys will remain in depots and not operate, due to the strike.
Thessaloniki metro project said to be finally on track
Greece's northern port city of Thessaloniki will have its own metro system ready by 2023, General Secretary of Public Works Giorgos Karayiannis said Thursday during a worksite inspection.
