An Istanbul court on Dec. 21 ordered a suspect who injured a young woman on a public bus after kicking her for wearing shorts to undergo a mental examination at a forensic institution to determine if health issues played a role in the assault.

Two Greek sites make top 10 list of this year's archaeological discoveries
Two archaeological findings in Greece - namely the so-called Antikythera Man and a mass grave at the Phaleron (present-day Faliro) Delta, south of Athens - have been included in the "Top 10 Discoveries of 2016" by Archaeology magazine. The publication is issued by the Archaeological Institute of America.
Turks get richer overnight due to revision in GDP per capita data
Turkey's 2015 GDP per capita has increased from $9,130 to 11,014 after the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK) revised how it calculated the figure.
Around 80 million Turks got a nearly 20 percent boost to their average standard of living on Dec. 12 - on paper at least.

Strike action to shut down country on Thursday
Greece will be brought to a halt on Thursday as the country's biggest labor unions - representing public and private sector workers - have announced a 24-hour general strike to protest plans for labor reforms and tax hikes.
The action will also disrupt transport as buses and trolley will be out of service from 9 a.m until 9 p.m., when the shift ends.
