Dogfights between Greek and Turkish F-16s over Aegean Sea

Greek and Turkish fighter jets engaged in dogfights over the Aegean Sea, when a pair of Turkish F-16 jets violated Greek airspace on Friday. A total of 6 violations were recorded, 5 of which were flights over the Greek island of Panagia at 10.44am. Greek jets scrambled and intercepted the intruders, four of which were armed. There were also three infringements of the Athens FIR.

Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary Expand Free Route Airspace for Night Flights

Starting on March 30, the Bulgarian Air Traffic Services Authority (BULATSA), together with the air navigation services providers of Romania, ROMATSA and Hungary, HungaroControl, expand the Free Route Airspace for flights during the night within the three countries' airspace, BULATSA said in a press release on Thursday, cited by BTA.

Italian Military Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Sofia Airport

An Italian military plane has made an emergency landing at Sofia Airport after engine failure, announced for BNR Interior Ministry officials.

Ambulances and fire engines have been sent to the site.

The plane landed successfully. There is no danger for the people on board.

The plane took off from Plovdiv.

Ankara to buy more fighter jets, causing unease in Athens

Ankara is to order a further 24 Lockheed Martin F-35 aircraft, Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Isik said in an interview with broadcaster A Haber on Tuesday.

Turkey is expected to receive the stealth fighters in 2018.

According to sources, Ankara plans to acquire 116 F-35s to replace its fleet of F-16 jets.
