President Joe Biden on Aug. 16 defended the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan after the Taliban's stunning military takeover that triggered panic in Kabul with thousands mobbing the airport in a desperate attempt to flee.

Ljubljana – The Slovenian Foreign Ministry has expressed concern over the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan. “Violence should be ended, the civilian population, in particular women and children, should be protected, and basic human rights standards should be upheld,” the ministry said on Twitter on Monday.

Balkan governments say they are ready to help evacuate their remaining citizens from Afghanistan after Taliban forces seized control of Kabul over the weekend and as the United States pulls out its remaining forces. Most Balkan nationals still in the country are presumed safe.

Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines on Aug. 16 canceled all scheduled flights to Afghanistan, following the Taliban's capture of the capital Kabul.

A special Turkish Airlines flight sent to bring back Turkish nationals from Afghanistan is expected to arrive at the Istanbul Airport at 2:20 p.m. (1120GMT) with 324 passengers.

The Turkish Embassy in Kabul continues operations, the Turkish foreign minister said on Aug. 15.

All necessary measures have been taken regarding Turkey's diplomatic missions and personnel in Afghanistan, said Mevlüt Çavuşoglu in a press briefing prior to departure from Algeria.

Militants have taken control of Kabul University, located in the west of the Afghan capital.
According to him, the terrorists even raised their flags in one of the city areas not far from the university.
Al-Arabiya television reported that the Taliban announced that they would provide everyone who wanted to do so with the opportunity to leave Kabul.

The alert level for Afghanistan has been reassessed and raised and Romanian citizens are urged to urgently leave this state's territory and to avoid any travel to Afghanistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) informs on Friday in a press release sent to AGERPRES.

Afghanistan's newly appointed ambassador to Ankara on Aug. 12 said that Turkey's ongoing mission at the Hamid Karzai International Airport is in support of peace and stability.

Speaking to a group of reporters from the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Turkey, Amir Mohammad Ramin hailed Turkey's role in Afghanistan.

The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) is ready to operate the Hamid Karzai Airport in Kabul if the conditions are met by its interlocutors, Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on Aug. 7.

Turkey has done its best for the safety and prosperity of the Afghan people, the minister said, speaking at a military ceremony.

Britain has warned all U.K. nationals in Afghanistan to leave the country immediately due to the "worsening security situation" as fighting intensifies.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office on Friday updated its website to advise against all travel to Afghanistan.
