One young man killed, two injured in car crash

A 26-year-old man died and his two passengers, aged 24 and 33, were seriously injured in a crash late on Monday night near the seaside town of Aigeira in the northern Peloponnese.

According to the police, the car veered out of control on the old Patra-Corinth national highway and smashed into the perimeter wall of a nearby house.

Woman attempts suicide after attack from husband

A 36-year-old woman in the town of Aigio, western Greece, tried to commit suicide by taking an unknown number of pills after she was attacked by her husband. 

The 39-year-old husband was arrested and is facing charges of domestic violence. 

Police was alerted to the suicide attempt by the local hospital where she was transferred for treatment. 

Bishop fined for blessing the waters seaside

Ieronymos, Metropolitan Bishop of Egio and Kalavryta, in the Peloponnese, proceeded to bless the waters at the town of Egio, defying the instructions of the official Church.

He was accompanied by his predecessor, Amvrosios, a well-known extremist, who resigned in 2019, and two individuals who dove to retrieve a cross the bishop threw at sea.

Driver in deadly hit-and-run to be tried by military court

A 28-year-old motorist was released on Monday from police detention in Patra, western Greece, after striking a 67-year-old pedestrian and her grandson, who was just a few months old, near the town of Aigio on Sunday afternoon, killing them both.

He was released after his case was deferred to a Piraeus military court, as the 28-year-old is serving in the navy as a sergeant.
