Turkish boxer claims Olympic silver
Hatice Akbaş of Türkiye lost 5-0 to China's Chang Yuan in the women's 54kg weight class of boxing at the Paris Olympics on Aug. 8, settling for the silver medal.
Akbaş, 23, looked to put the bout behind her and focus on the future.
"It wasn't my best fight," admitted the boxer, who won Türkiye's only second silver and fifth medal in total in Paris.

First seafood receives geographical indication
A traditional Turkish seafood dish called "Sinop lakerda," which reflects thousands of years of marine and fishing culture of the northern province of Sinop, has become the first seafood product ever to receive a geographical indication.
"Sinop lakerda" is a pickled dish prepared by slicing toric or large bonito fish, native to the Black Sea region.

Man sentenced to 1033 years in boat disaster case
Medeni Akbaş, who was on trial for the boat disaster in Lake Van claiming the lives of 61 irregular migrants, including one child, has been sentenced to 1033 years in prison.
Akbaş, who has been detained for two years, was sentenced to 16 years and 8 months for 60 people, 25 years for the child and eight years for "smuggling immigrants."
