President Joe Biden announced on Feb. 4 the United States was ending support for a grinding five-year Saudi-led military offensive in Yemen that has deepened suffering in the Arabian peninsula's poorest country, calling the move part of restoring a U.S. emphasis on diplomacy, democracy and human rights.

US forces said they had killed dozens of so-called "Islamic State" members in a strike on training camps in Yemen's al Bayda governorate. The US has upped its number of strikes in Yemen as the civil war drags on, Deutsche Welle reported. 

Reports indicated that about 50 "Islamic State (IS) fighters were killed in two airstrikes, both manned and unmanned.

A suspected al-Qaeda suicide bomber killed three Yemeni soldiers and wounded nine others in an attack yesterday on an army position in the country's south, military officials said.

U.S. forces have carried out a ground raid on an al-Qaeda compound in Yemen, killing seven militants, the Pentagon said late on May 22.

The raid took place in Marib province in the early hours of Tuesday local time and was conducted with the support of Yemeni authorities.

Ten people were killed Monday in a Islamist militants attack on a government building in southern Yemen that also saw 10 assailants die, including a suicide bomber, officials said.

President Donald Trump made unannounced visit to Dover Air Force Base on Wednesday for the return of the remains of the US SEAL killed in the raid in Yemen earlier this week.

Trump, his daughter Ivanka and Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware went to Dover AFB on Marine One.

Yemen's government forces battled al Qaeda in the country's south on April 23, aiming to push back advances the militant group has made during a year-long civil war while peace talks take place in Kuwait. 

An air strike believed to have been carried out by a US drone in south Yemen on Feb. 4 killed a prominent chief of Al-Qaeda's branch in the war-torn country, a family member said.

Dozens of al-Qaeda militants reclaimed the town of Azzan in Yemen's Shabwa province on Feb. 1, residents said, exploiting a security vacuum in the country's south as a civil war rages. 

Al Qaeda have retaken the two major southern Yemeni towns of Zinjibar and Jaar, while Yemeni Prime Minister Khaled Bahah rejected a cabinet reshuffle ordered on Dec. 1, by Hadi.
