British company Cambridge Analytica, which is at the center of a Facebook scandal, has announced that it has begun insolvency proceedings and "stops all its operations immediately," says Bgnes.

Nikola Spasov became the Balkans representative for Cambridge Analytica in January 2017. He told BIRN that since then the firm has worked on two election campaigns in the region.

 "Cambridge Analytica has not worked in Macedonia so far, either in political campaigns or for commercial clients. It worked on two campaigns in the region, in which I was personally engaged," he says.

The Facebook data row surrounding British analytics company Cambridge Analytica has made waves in Romania, after a consultant revealed that the company scouted him to secretly work for Romania's ruling Social Democratic Party in its triumphant 2016 election campaign.
