Wildfire in Evia expands, more evacuations ordered

The wildfire that broke out on Monday afternoon in eastern Evia, between the villages of Petries and Krieza, has expanded across three fronts.

With strong winds blowing in the area, the fire burns uncontrolled, prompting authorities to order the evacuation of the Petries settlement and to close parts of the road network.

The municipal authority of Kymi-Aliveri on Evia Island has sent a document to the police to address the presence of illegal campers at Thapsa Beach, following a viral photo that depicted the coast occupied by a large number of tents, it was reported on Wednesday. 

Fire in Evia – Marmari is also being evacuated – Ships on standby

A large fire is in progress that broke out in the early hours of Monday in Fygias Karystos in Evia, while through 112 an order was given for the preventive evacuation of the settlements of Kokkini and the Doctors' Building Cooperative. A few minutes ago, a precautionary evacuation order was given for Marmari as well.

Pavlopoulos pays tribute to Roma

President Prokopis Pavlopoulos marked International Roma Day on Saturday, saying Greece's Roma community is an integral part of society.

Pavlopoulos urged the Roma to feel that they belong and urged them to participate, as he welcomed children from the region of Aliveri in Volos, central Greece, to the Presidential Mansion in Athens.
