Bosnia and Herzegovina on Dec. 23 formed a new government 14 months after general elections in October 2018.

Receiving a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives, the new government was formed by the country's largest Bosniak, Serb and Croat parties, who agreed to form the government last month.

Even by these standards, though, political developments over the last month have been startling. To begin with, while we do not know the exact contours of the deal that finally allowed Tegeltija to assume his post, it is clear that a breakthrough was made about Bosnia's Atlantic accession prospects.

Zoran Tegeltija, the recently appointed chairman of the Council of Ministers - Bosnia's state-level government - on Tuesday finally completed the composition of his cabinet, 14 months after the last legislative elections in the country.

The tripartite presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina appointed Bosnian Serb Zoran Tegeltija as Chairman of the Council of Ministers, effectively the country's prime minister, on Monday after more than a year of wrangling between the three main nationalist parties, Bosnian media reported.

Bosnian Serb lawmakers are to consider changes to the criminal code of Bosnia's mainly Serb Republika Srpska introducing punishment for individuals who fail to comply with decisions of the entity's parliament, a move analysts warned was designed to rein in Serb officials at the state level.

Lawmakers in Bosnia's mainly Serb entity of Republika Srpska adopted principles on Tuesday declaring the entity's right to referenda on 'self-determination' and Bosnian membership of NATO.

"In this country, no one will ever impose anything on anyone. When it comes to Serbs and Republika Srpska, if they do not want to join NATO - they will not go to NATO", Izetbegovic said for RTRS political magazine "Pecat" last night.

Speakers at the US Senate's subcommittee on Europe and regional-security cooperation on Wednesday blamed Bosnian Serb supremo Milorad Dodik for the current stalemate in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was preventing the formation of a new state government and blocking the NATO integration process.

Bosniak politician Senad Bratic quit as vice-speaker of the assembly in Bosnia's Serb-dominated entity, Republika Srpska, RS, on Wednesday - after the party to which he belongs passed a controversial declaration at its recent party congress that landed him in hot political water.

Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik has threatened to torpedo a number of major achieved reforms in the country, including the formation of joint armed forces and a state court and police agency, unless a state-level government is formed soon.
