Funding earmarked for Volos and Pilio businesses hit by 2023 floods
Government funding totaling between 3 and 4 million euros will be provided to businesses in the greater Volos area in southern Pilio and in Almyros, which were affected by the destructive Storm Daniel that slammed central Greece last year.
Kalamata: A deer was pulled dead from the sea in Almyros
Swimmers were confronted with a sad sight in the sea on Monday morning in the area of Almiros in Kalamata.
They found that a deer was found dead in the sea, with the cause of death not yet known.
The coast guard was immediately alerted, which in turn informed the OAK Messinia.
Agricultural damage found to be far greater than Ianos
The Ministry of Rural Development and Food estimates that damage caused by the Daniel weather system to crop and animal production on the Thessaly Plain, a region famous for its agricultural production, will be three times worse than that which resulted from Ianos in 2020.
Some 73,000 hectares across Thessaly are under water, with 50,000-55,000 sown with cotton.
Woman found dead in Almyros fire
The remains of a woman were found in a trailer home near the town of Almyros, in Thessaly, where a fire was burning on Wednesday. The woman lived with her husband who was taken to hospital.
The mayor of Almyros, at the Regional Entity of Magnisia, stated that residents had been told to evacuate.

Sidenor suspends operation of steel plants
The coronavirus pandemic has dealt another blow to the Greek economy as Viohalco subsidiary Sidenor announced on Monday the suspension of all operations at its steelmaking units in Greece from this Thursday until May 3, a move attributed to the sudden slump in demand for construction materials and the shelving of major state projects.

Teen death in amusement park attributed to excessive speed
The fatal fall of a 14-year-old girl from the "flying carpet" of an amusement park near the town of Almyros in Volos central Greece on August 30 was the result of the ride's excessive speed, a probe has found.
The probe, published over the weekend, found that the ride's engine produces 123 horsepower instead of 15 hp as declared to authorities.
Probe being carried out into fatal fairground injury of girl, 13
Police in Volos, central Greece, are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of a 13-year-old girl at a fairground near the town of Almyros on Friday.
The incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday night, according to local reports, which said the girl fell off one of the rides from a great height.

President hits out at Ankara over sea border comments
A day after Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu claimed there are no sea borders between Greece and Turkey, Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos declared that those borders exist and that they also demarcate the frontier with the European Union.
Murder suspect arrested in Almyros, Magnesia
A 36-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday in the village of Almyros in Magnesia, central Greece, in connection with the murder of a 64-year-old businessman.
The suspect worked for the victim, according to local media, which said that the body of the 64-year-old, who had died from gunshot wounds, was found by his son.
