National Gardens closed, traffic ban on Lycabettus due to fire risk

Municipal authorities in Athens have closed the National Gardens and the Alsos Horofylakis park due to the increased risk of fire. The parks will remain closed until the end of their operating hours. Moreover, a traffic ban and increased police presence has been ordered on Lycabettus hill.

First stretch of tunnel on Metro Line 4 presented

Construction company AVAX Group gave a tour to press representatives on Thursday of the Katehaki metro tunnel, where work is being carried out for Line 4 of Athens metro.

The first 700 meters of tunnel has already been opened by the first of the two tunnel boring machines deployed. The final destination is Evangelismos station, in central Athens.

Scuffles break out near construction site of Exarchia metro station

Minor scuffles broke out on Monday morning between the police and protesters near Exarchia Square in central Athens, where construction is underway for a new metro station. The protesters, upset about the felling of trees at the construction site, caused slight damage to the site's fence, prompting the police to use pepper spray to disperse them.

Tunnel borer being assembled to start work on new Athens metro line

The first of two massive tunnel borers that will be put to work on the extension of the Athens metro is being assembled, the president of Attiko Metro SA announced on Tuesday.

In a post on social media, Nikos Tachiaos published photographs of the construction site on Katehaki Avenue in the Athens suburb of Ellinoroson where the assembly is taking place.

Man dies in apparent fall from Tourkovounia cliff

A 30-year-old man whose body was found at a steep rocky area of the Tourkovounia hill range in central Athens on Wednesday afternoon is believed to have died from the fall, according to Thursday's forensic report.
The victim bore fatal multiple fractures consistent with a fall from a great height, while there were no indications of foul play, the report said.

GEK Terna frontrunner for new metro line prep

Greek conglomerate GEK Terna is seen as the frontrunner for winning a tender to carry out preparatory works prior to construction for a new metro line in the Greek capital, according to sources.

The project concerns work on the first section of Line 4, which will connect downtown Athens from Alsos Veikou to Goudi.
