Instagram blocked in Türkiye for third day

Instagram users in Türkiye woke up Sunday to find the social media network blocked for the third consecutive day, following censorship accusations against the U.S. company from a high-ranking Turkish official.

The BTK communications authority announced on its website on Friday that the Meta-owned platform had been frozen, without giving any reason.

Türkiye on Friday blocked access to the Instagram social media network, the national communications authority said, following censorship accusations against the U.S. company by Türkiye's  communications director.

The BTK communications authority said in a post on its website that "instagram.com has been blocked by a decision on the date of 02/08/2024", without adding further details.

Fahrettin Altun: Mitsotakis visit to Turkey is ‘extremely important’

Turkish Communications Director Fahrettin Altun said that the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' visit to Turkey is "extremely important" for stronger ties between the two neighbors.

Speaking at the Turkish-Greek Media and Academy Forum in Istanbul over the weekend, Altun said the visit marks a "serious opportunity" to create joint solutions for regional problems.

Turkish weightlifters claim gold at European Championships

 Turkish weightlifters Cansu Bektaş and Gamze Altun clinched gold medals in the women's 45-kilogram category on the first day of the European Weightlifting Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Bektaş lifted 75 kilograms in the snatch, securing Turkey's first gold medal of the championship. Meanwhile, Altun lifted 92 kilograms in the clean and jerk to claim her gold medal.

"This is not the first time that Reuters, an apparatus of perception operations and systematic manipulation targeting Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkey, publishes misleading and fake news," Altun wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.
