American-led intervention in Syria

A string of miscommunications, intelligence shortcomings and human errors resulted in a U.S.-led coalition air strike in Syria in September that reportedly killed around 90 regime forces, the Pentagon said Nov. 29, AFP reported.

A flotilla of Russian warships is now in the eastern Mediterranean off the Syrian coast after being sent to reinforce Russia's military in the area, a naval commander said on state television.

Air strikes by the United States in Iraq and Syria against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) may have killed 119 civilians since 2014, the Pentagon said Nov. 9, releasing a death toll that is far lower than the casualty estimates supplied by monitoring groups.

U.S.-backed forces pressed offensives Nov. 9 on the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant's (ISIL) strongholds in Syria and Iraq, as an air strike by the American-led coalition reportedly killed 20 civilians near the Syrian city of Raqqa.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has told U.S. President Barack Obama to exclude the Syrian Democratic Union Party (PYD) from the upcoming Raqqa operation to oust jihadists, reiterating Ankara's determination to continue its military offensive toward al-Bab, Raqqa and Manbij in northern Syria. 

BELGRADE - Hundreds of civilians have been killed in Syria by the airstrikes of the US-led coalition against Daesh over the past two years, an international rights advocacy group said Wednesday.

Turkey is participating "in a multi-faceted way" in the operation to retake Mosul province from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and four Turkish F-16 jets are part of the anti-ISIL coalition forces, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has stressed.

The Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft will be based at an air base in the Central Anatolian province of Konya. They will be used for reconnaissance in support of air strikes against ISIL targets. 

BELGRADE - The statement made by the British Envoy to the United Nations on Saturday came less than 48 hours after the "moderate" and "peaceful" rebels signed an agreement to start fighting alongside a Daesh (ISIS) offshoot Jund al-Aqsa in addition to al-Qaeda affiliate al-Nusra Front.

Clashes occurred in the Ziyara area, which was seized by the Free Syrian Army (FSA), after ISIL attempted to infiltrate the area, the Turkish General Staff said in a statement on Oct. 5.
One soldier was killed, while three soldiers were wounded in the clashes.

It said that two FSA members were also killed, while 17 others were wounded.
